PLEO The Dinosaur
PLEO Dinosaur – A UGOBE Lifeform
By Calvin Johnson & Jane Hallowell
Pleo the dinosaur is a lifelike interactive toy that represents a baby Camarasaurus. The toy starts out as a newborn dinosaur and when the toy is initially activated he begins his new life. The toy starts to grow and begins to develop his own habits and traits. His mood can go from carefree and nosy to frightened and scared depending on the situations around him. Pleo goes through several stages such as infancy, to puberty and his you can watch his personality develop right before your eyes. I purchased Pleo for my twin 8 year old daughters and they love playing, nuturing, and following Pleo around the house.
Whenever my daughters friends come over all they want to do is see how
Billy (my daughter’s name for Pleo) is doing and love playing with him.
I can not stress enough how fun pleo the dinosaur is and it is highly
recommended. One complaint I have with pleo is that the battery can
take up to four hours to charge, which can be a pain when the family
comes over and wants to see the toy.
Technical
Aspects of Pleo The Robotic Dinosaur
Pleo the dinosaur has more than one hundred gears in his
body and 14 motorized parts for his legs and neck. Pleo also has sensors built into
his body that lets pleo known when he is being picked up or played
with. Also, his sensors allow him to know when he is standing on the
ground or carpet and also allow him to know when he is being played with upside down.
Pleo definitely pushed the envelope in terms of lifelike
toys. I put pleo on the edge of my dinning room table and he would not walk off the
edge of the table. Also, if you do not pay attention to Pleo the
dinosaur when he is awake, he will quickly curl into a ball and fall back asleep.
